Operating across multiple sectors including e-commerce, retail, food & beverage, Swisslog has signed to date a total of seven large-scale projects in the UAE, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), and Kuwait with a value of over USD 100 million. Seamless Retail Middle East expo saw a strong participation from Swisslog, where the organisation’s Global MarketLeader in Retail and E-commerce and a veteran in automation, Roland Martin held a few workshops presenting the global and local case studies as well as explaining the importance of increasing efficiency with data-driven and robotic warehousing. With Autostore, an automated storage andpicking system for small parts, retailers have an efficient, safe and a fast fulfilment system. Businesses across the region are increasingly turning to automation to solve a host of challenges. A recent report by management consultancy McKinsey & Company states that the pace of automation has been gradual but is accelerating, and in countries like KSA, Bahrain,Kuwait, and the UAE, the projected adoption of automation by 2030 is higher than the projected global average of 32%. The report further states that sectors intensive in routine tasks such as manufacturing, transportation and warehousing can greatly improve productivity simply by using automation.
“We are seeing a steady increase in demand for ourindustry 4.0 and robotics solutions designed to address the challenges oftomorrow, as businesses in the Middle East continue to recognise the benefits of automation. Our recent commitment is our promise to deliver a $21m fully automated storage solution for the UAE’s water-bottled company Mai Dubai later this year,” added Kaddoum.
Process automation in the Middle East and Africamarket is expected to register a CAGR of 5.15% between 2018 and 2023. The government’s support for Industry 4.0 and digitalisation, the economic transformation asa result of Expo 2020 and other large-scale industry events are all factors that are contributing to the increase in awareness of benefits of automation amongst business owners. In line with Expo 2020, Swisslog’s expects to continue to see an increase in business growth year-on-year, as billions of dollars are being invested in the infrastructure and logistics services.
Businesses in the region that have adopted automation report the benefits of agile automation systems in solving logistical challenges.
