Make an impact

Join Swisslog's Modernization Services team and help shape the future of automation for customers across EMEA. As a Senior Controls System Engineer, you will lead the development of lifecycle and modernization strategies for automated warehouse and intralogistics systems. Working closely with customers, engineering teams, and key stakeholders, you will assess existing automation solutions, identify improvement opportunities, and create practical roadmaps that increase system performance, reliability, and long-term sustainability. This is a highly visible role where you'll combine technical expertise, customer consulting, and strategic thinking to help customers maximize the value of their automation investments.   What You'll Do  
  • Develop lifecycle and modernization roadmaps for customer sites across EMEA.
  • Assess automation systems, controls architectures, hardware platforms, and software environments to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Define modernization and migration strategies that improve performance, reliability, and operational continuity while minimizing downtime.
  • Translate technical assessments into customer-focused recommendations and business value.
  • Present modernization concepts and lifecycle strategies to technical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on technology evolution, lifecycle planning, and investment decisions.
  • Support local teams with site assessments and modernization initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for standardized modernization solutions across the installed customer base.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Account Management, Software Delivery, and Engineering teams to develop and deliver innovative modernization offerings.
  • Partner with Swisslog and KUKA colleagues to share expertise, align modernization programs, and drive continuous improvement.

Application Requirements

What you need to succeed
  • Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, and lifecycle management within automated material handling, intralogistics, or similar industries.
  • Strong understanding of PLC-based control systems, automation architectures, software platforms, and modernization approaches
  • Experience developing lifecycle strategies, migration plans, and technology roadmaps.
  • Background in technical consulting, customer-facing engineering, or solution development.
  • Excellent analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Experience working in international and cross-functional environments.
  • Professional English skills and willingness to travel across EMEA.
