Wärtsilä Central Distribution Center in Kampen, The Netherlands

Wärtsilä extends service agreement with Swisslog at Wärtsilä's Central Distribution Centre Kampen, the Netherlands

Wärtsilä, a global leader in smart technologies and complete lifecycle solutions for the marine and energy markets, has extended its service agreement with Swisslog. The new contract will expand Swisslog's service in Wärtsilä's Central Distribution Centre (CDC) in Kampen and ensure Wärtsilä's optimal support of its 24/7 service strategy.

The opening of the global logistics centre in Kampen in 2010 provided Wärtsilä with the basis for efficient, reliable, and fast logistics. At the time, the centre was realised by Swisslog, which provided a fully integrated, data-driven system solution, including eightVectura high-bay pallet cranes, a miniload warehouse with ten Tornado miniload cranes, conveyor systems for totes as well as pallets, a goods-to-person picking system with pick-by-light and all relevant software.

The system is designed to meet Wärtsilä's specific requirements and enables Wärtsilä to implement a 24/7 service strategy that improves efficiency and customer service on one end and achieves cost savings on the other. For this 24/7 service strategy, Swisslog provides global and local support for which the team of experienced and skilled service engineers on site is essential, providing operational support as well as assisting with change proposals and realisation of new optimisations (system and building related).

With the recent contract renewal, Swisslog offers - in addition to its trusted, professional on-site service - support for Wärtsilä's new warehouse management system SAP-EWM, which replaced Swisslog's WM3 earlier this year. Westernacher was responsible for implementing the business logic in EWM. With Swisslog being responsible for the material flow of the automated material handling equipment in EWM with routing and strategies. The visualization is built on Swisslog's SynQ software.

The contract prolongation covers a period of three years. Including the two remaining years of the current contract, Wärtsilä is therefore assured of an optimal support for the next five years for both all automated warehouse processes and the corresponding software.
