Pastificio Garofalo selects Swisslog to build advanced high bay warehouse solution

February 13, 2025

Pastificio Garofalo, a renowned Italian pasta manufacturer, has announced a partnership with global automation specialist Swisslog to implement a state-of-the-art high bay warehouse solution.

A leader in quality pasta production

Founded in 1789, Garofalo has a rich history in the pasta industry and has expanded its presence both domestically and internationally. Since 2014, Garofalo has been majority-owned by Ebro Foods, a Spanish multinational group specializing in rice, pasta, and condiments. Today, Garofalo is a leader in quality pasta production in Italy and exports its products to over eighty countries worldwide.

Garofalo has experienced a significant increase in sales revenues, which have grown by 35% since 2019/2020, largely due to exports. To support this growth, the firm required a cost-effective and reliable automated logistics solution.

Advanced HBW with monorail system

Swisslog successfully outbid competitors with an advanced high bay warehouse solution. The new facility, to be constructed at Garafalo’s current production site in Gragnano, will support production, raw materials storage, and finished products storage. It will handle pallets for shipping finished pasta products and will be connected to the existing production site via a monorail system.

“We are very proud to have embarked on this journey in automation with Swisslog, and we are confident that this investment will provide increased delivery performance for all our customers”, commented Massimo Menna, CEO for Pastificio Lucio Garofalo SpA.

The scope of the project includes a high bay warehouse with 6 Vectura S32 cranes, capable of handling 100 pallets per hour inbound and 170 pallets per hour outbound. A ProMove pallet conveyor system and a monorail system provide the transportation of goods through the facility, while a wrapper prepares pallets for shipping. The automated technology is managed by a control system and SynQ software

Swisslog secured the order in November 2024, and the Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) is expected to be signed in early 2026.
