The AutoStore 2025 Fall Product Launch is sure to stir up the intralogistics world, introducing bold new capabilities that promise to reshape automated distribution and fulfilment. As a global leader in AutoStore integration with more than 400 projects delivered worldwide, Swisslog brings deep experience and a candid lens to the conversation.

So, what’s included in this release? And what makes this one stand out?

To answer those questions, we hosted an internal roundtable, where Swisslog’s Dan Cahalan and John Barre unpacked the release to share their favorite features and explore its implications for both new and existing customers.

Their verdict? This release isn’t just incremental; it will be transformational. From case handling to bin flexibility, it opens new use cases and simplifies system management in ways that matter.

Let’s dive into the highlights…

Swisslog’s top two highlights from AutoStore’s Fall Release

1. AutoCase: The game-changer for case fulfillment

Swisslog’s standout feature of the Fall release is AutoCase; AutoStore’s new capability for automated case injection and extraction. This marks a significant shift in how AutoStore systems will be used, enabling the automated storage and retrieval of cases and eaches within the grid.

Historically, AutoStore was ideal for high-throughput, discrete order picking with steep Pareto distributions. But buffering and case handling? That was a different challenge. Now, AutoCase opens the door for AutoStore as a alternative to traditional automated case storage systems.

As Dan put it, “This changes the game. It allow Swisslog to now store eaches for goods-to-person picking and buffer cases for more intelligent outbound; something that previously required two separate subsystems.” Dan continues, “This allows customers to remove the previously-required touches for putting a case into a bin and removing it from that bin.

AutoCase will now allow our customers whose business requirements were previously not a fit for AutoStore to now consider it as a viable option – allowing them the ability to capture a balance of availability, throughput, density, and total cost of ownership benefits that existing AutoStore customers have come to know.

2. FlexBins: The versatility you’ve been searching for

Another headline feature is FlexBins, which allows multiple bin types to coexist within the same grid.

“Customers with diverse product portfolios have been asking for this for years,” explains John. “Sportswear retailers can now store shoeboxes and t-shirts together in the same AutoStore system using bins right-sized to the product inside of them, e-commerce retailers can handle thousands of SKUs across categories, and food and beverage manufacturers can handle different package sizes more efficiently.”

John adds a practical note: “FlexBins represents a leap in flexibility that will make a real difference for many operations. While promising, customers need to be mindful when working with their grid designer, that each storage column must still be dedicated to a single bin type, and ports must be dedicated to specific bin sizes.”

Another notable update

Beyond the headline features, the Fall 2025 release includes several enhancements that also carry real operational value.

“Another that stands out is the Multi-Temperature Solution (MTS) Frozen-Only Grid,” says Dan. “Previously, AutoStore required that a frozen grid be supported by a sizable amount of chilled grid, even if the customer did not have chilled product to store. This resulted in chilled environments that were actually larger than what was required by the customer’s business. Now, AutoStore has advanced the design to allow frozen-only grids to stand alone, allowing the chilled environment to shrink just the size of the required frozen storage, saving capital costs and the expense of cooling the refrigerated space”.

Swisslog is proud to be one of only two integrators globally (and the only one in the US) with a proven MTS reference. This release shows growing confidence in AutoStore for tackling frozen and temperature-sensitive operations.

Unlocking value for both new and long-time AutoStore customers

The Fall 2025 release brings meaningful advancements for customers at every stage of their AutoStore journey.

For new adopters
“This Fall Release lowers the barriers to entry and broadens what AutoStore can deliver,” says Dan. “AutoCase introduces case fulfilment alongside traditional goods-to-person workflows, while FlexBins make it easier to manage diverse product portfolios without compromising storage density.”

In addition to these major advancements, AutoStore additionally have continued to incrementally improve the deployment methods of their system, including advances to floor flatness surveying and levelling requirements, and by optimizing fire protection standards through proactive alignment with the globally recognized fire protection authority, FM Global.

For existing customers
While the latest release of AutoStore introduces a host of powerful features designed to deliver exceptional value for both greenfield and retrofit applications, existing Swisslog customers will also experience significant improvements in how system updates are managed.

CubeDeploy is a solution that simplifies software upgrades and enhances long-term serviceability,” explains John. “CubeDeploy acts as a comprehensive wrapper, consolidating all updates for AutoStore services into a single, streamlined package. The result is faster, safer, and more reliable upgrades that keep your system running at peak performance.”

With CubeDeploy, Swisslog customers can look forward to improved system management, stronger infrastructure, and a future-ready approach to automation.
