Kühne + Nagel, one of the world’s leading logistics providers, has awarded Swisslog a contract for the construction of an automated high-bay pallet warehouse. It is scheduled to start operations in 2018. The warehouse will be part of the Swiss Logistics Hub for Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare, which is being built by Kühne + Nagel at its Möhlin location in the Swiss canton of Aargau. From there, the logistics provider will offer warehouse and picking services as well as door-to-door delivery, including sensitive and temperature-controlled products, for Swiss and international pharmaceutical and healthcare companies. The Swiss Logistics Hub in Möhlin will also focus on value added services. All transport and logistics services will be performed under one roof based on GxP-compliant standards.
“Swisslog has already completed logistics systems for leading global pharmaceutical companies,” says Daniel Hauser, Managing Director of Region Central Europe & Middle East at Swisslog Warehouse and Distribution Solutions: “We know how important it is to comply with strict quality requirements and statutory regulations, especially in this industry. We are very proud that Kühne + Nagel has awarded us this contract.”
The project is for a silo-type warehouse with 25,360 double-depth pallet storage locations. This will include the installation of five Swisslog Vectura stacker cranes as well as automated roller and vertical conveyors connected to the warehouse. In addition, Swisslog’s SynQ software solution will be used for warehouse management, material flow control and visualization.
