AMAG, Switzerland: Motor vehicle parts warehouse automation

AMAG Automobil- und Motoren AG is Switzerland’s leading car importer and dealer operating repair centers across the country for major brands including Volkswagen and Audi. To adapt quickly to customers’ increased demands and recognizing the need to have parts available within six hours of order placement, AMAG used Swisslog as general contractor to establish Switzerland’s largest automotive spare parts warehouse. Swisslog handled the planning of this warehouse logistics automation project which was implemented in several phases.

Storage capacity doubled

Expansion and modernization of the central spare parts warehouse for the biggest automotive trade in Switzerland – 150 000 spare parts always available ex-stock.

AMAG’s existing storage capacity was not able to keep pace with growth. The company had two fundamental goals: to expand logistics capacities at the existing site and to accommodate steadily rising order volumes without adding personnel.

The new center includes a high-bay pallet warehouse, small parts storage, a bin conveyor system and automated guided vehicles (AGV).

WarehouseManager system

The highly efficient automated warehouse logistics system ensures AMAG benefits from:

  • Fewer interfaces, using a single partner for planning, implementation and service
  • Double the storage capacity
  • Faster internal flow of goods
  • Seamless transparency, control and delivery accuracy

"Together with Swisslog we created a distribution center that is perfectly equipped for future challenges. We can handle order throughput times of only one hour even with higher volumes."
