Cardinal Health recently announced the construction of a new distribution center in Fort Worth, Texas, that will feature AutoStore empowered by Swisslog. The solution utilizes Swisslog's powerful intralogistics software platform, SynQ, to fulfill orders, manage inventory, handle exceptions, and integrate with the host system and with AutoStore to ensure performance and visibility throughout the process.
The new 340,000-square-foot Cardinal Health distribution center will support the company’s at-Home Solutions business, a leading medical supplies provider that serves more than 5 million patients annually in the United States. It will consolidate its two existing warehouses into one larger facility, creating approximately 74,000 additional square feet of inventory capacity while retaining its current workforce.
Once operational, the solution in the new facility will feature 74 robots. This is the third distribution center for Cardinal Health that features Swisslog automation; the other two opened last year in South Carolina and Ohio. Swisslog’s automation experts once again worked with the Cardinal Health team to deploy the industry-leading robotic automation technology, which Cardinal Health says is “already proving their value in improving customer experience.”
Congratulations to Cardinal Health on this exciting development. The company continues to set an example in how advanced automation can be used to strengthen supply chains to better serve the needs of customers, as well as help position a company for continued strategic growth.
The facility is expected to ship an average of 10,000 packages per day to patients' homes across the country. The building is anticipated to be fully operational in the summer of 2025.
