Coop Norge SA, Norway's second-largest grocery chain, has 28,000 employees, eight chains, and 1,250 stores and department stores. In 2018, Coop Norge's non-food division, Coop Faghandel, built an automated logistics centre in Langhus, a central warehouse facility outside Oslo. Swisslog was chosen as a partner for the venture.

A warehouse for all needs

The automation solution is designed to use all available areas in the warehouse as efficiently as possible, and consists of an automated high-bay warehouse, conveyor system, picking locations and an automated light goods warehouse.

The central warehouse uses automation and manual handling together to efficiently handle all types and sizes of items, from small to large and bulky. Swisslog's SynQ WMS software controls both manual and automated processes.

60% productivity increase

The biggest benefit for Coop Faghandel is the flexible central warehouse can serve all eight chains and e-commerce with a high level of service and efficiency.

The new facility is designed to meet storage needs until 2030. After that, the high-bay warehouse and light goods facility can be expanded on the existing site. Additional automation is possible within the facility too.
