Wala Heilmittel GmbH from Bad Boll stands for drugs, body care products and cosmetics of natural origin. The company decided on a high degree of automation and an intelligent mix of different intralogistics technologies for the construction of a new distribution and logistics center.

Fast ROI

The new distribution and logistics center covers an area of 16,000 square meters and was built as part of Wala's expansion. Compared to the company's inventory logistics, it is designed to be much more modern, productive and compact as well as to reduce error rates: Factors that, as a whole, ensure a fast return on investment (ROI). Swisslog combined several systems for pallets and lightweight goods into a single system. These systems are highly digitized and are controlled through sophisticated software.

Intralogistics 4.0

Wala's logistics center can hold 26,000 articles, production equipment and finished goods and is designed to meet the requirements of Intralogistics 4.0: An automatic pallet high-bay warehouse with 12,000 storage locations and four Vectura stacker cranes were implemented to achieve this.

An automatic small parts warehouse (AKL) with three Tornado stacker cranes accommodates 13,000 containers. A shuttle warehouse – the CycloneCarrier – offers 1,200 storage spaces and operates with ten shuttles. Automatic conveyor technology, such as ProMove for pallets and QuickMove for containers and cartons, rounds off the overall solution, which is controlled by the SynQ software in a SAP EWM environment.
