Norway’s largest manufacturer of meat and egg products, Nortura Hærland, has an intralogistics operation that is more than four times more cost effective. The fully automated distribution center has a temperature controlled high bay warehouse, extensive conveyor system and robotic picking system.

For efficient goods handling, a MultiPick crate storage and picking system is used as a buffer storage facility. Four MultiPick robots sort the stacks of meat for each SKU and can pick everything from a stack to a single crate.

Three StarRobots and one depalletizer robot are used to build or break down pallets. One depalletizes stacks from the production site, while the other three build new customer specific pallets of stacks from the MultiPick robot.

Efficient material handling of meat and egg products

The High Bay Warehouse is 22 meters high, allowing for 4,000 pallet locations on a footprint of only 450 square meters.

Two Swisslog Vectura stacker cranes automatically store and retrieve pallets. With a maximum throughput of 120 pallets per hour, Nortura achives the highest levels of productivity thanks to increased throughput and optimized processes.

Swisslog’s solution design was the deciding factor for us when choosing an automation partner. We have extended the solution several times during the last decade, and we are very pleased with the results it has brought us. Prior's intralogistics operation is actually more than four times as cost efficient after automating.
