Swisslog, a leading supplier of solutions and services for medication and supply chain management in healthcare, has been awarded a major order for the delivery and installation of its state-of-the-art technologies for inpatient and outpatient drug dispensing at the prestigious Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil, Switzerland. The new medication management solution, realized by two Swisslog robots, TheraPick and EvoTec, streamlines and secures inpatients and outpatients medication processes. TheraPick automatically packages and dispenses drugs into patient-specific therapies in unit-dose format, ensuring that the right drug reaches the right patient at the right time, while EvoTec optimizes the storage of drug packages and automates their retrieval, reducing the manual workload for the in- and outpatients medication processes.
“Swisslog offers a unique solution for inpatient and outpatient automated drug management, freeing up caregivers’ time to focus on clinical pharmacy activities and counselling discharged patients, ultimately leading to better patient care.” says Valentin Habermacher, Hospital Pharmacist. “And it also allows us to close the loop in the medication process.”
The 150-bed Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil has been continuously expanding since its opening in 1990. The hospital set the course toward medication management of the future by choosing the Swisslog concept. Through their modular design and scalability, Swisslog technologies are able to adapt rapidly and seamlessly for planned health-system growth, ensuring safe medication dispensing across the healthcare continuum.
“Innovation, cost efficiency and enhanced quality are important prerequisites for the implementation of our vision and for sustainable success” declares Dr. med. Hans Peter Gmünder, Director SPC. With this installation, the Swiss Paraplegic Centre will be a beacon reference account for advanced pharmacy automation in Switzerland and across Europe.
“When the Swisslog solution goes live in October 2017, the prestigious Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil will be the first Swiss hospital with fully automated drug delivery for inpatients and outpatients.” explains Stephan Sonderegger, CEO of Swisslog Healthcare. “We are honored to be recognized by a leading facility as their technology partner for best-in-class automation solutions to enhance the patient experience.”
