Leadership style
In times of advancing digitalization and globalization, ambidextrous leadership promotes both – agility and innovative strength. That means maintaining the company's strengths while also developing new products. The new things that you set up have to be managed differently than the existing business. Due to this approach, some of our systems have been in use for decades.
A strong vision for logistics
Christian Baur’s vision for Swisslog is to become the leading provider ofdata- and robotic-driven solutions. In other words, solutions that are based purely on data, which are as flexible and sustainable as possible and, most importantly, are developed as digital models.
He predicts the worlds of software and hardware will come closer and closer together, creating new opportunities to meet ever-changing customer needs. Follow Dr. Christian E. Baur on LinkedIn to stay updated on the steps Swisslog is taking towards achieving this vision.

Key talking points: Chris, what are your thoughts on…
…smart cities and urban fulfillment?
“Urban fulfillment is marked by radical change: industries, retailers and consumers want their orders within a few hours. For logistics providers, this means delivering orders to customers in urban areas quickly, efficiently, and within the specified time frame. Smart cities served by micro fulfillment centers pave the way for this becoming a reality.”
…the importance of data for future logistics solutions?
“Gaining visibility into the warehouse operation means big data can be transformed into smart data, boosting performance. There are a range of intelligent services available to provide add-on analytics and business intelligence services.”
…sustainability as a corporate responsibility and in logistics?
“I see it as my responsibility to contribute in protecting our planet. As Swisslog’s CEO, I take our contribution seriously and strongly believe that sustainability begins inside the company. It is the responsibility of every organization to think more sustainable in order to help to protect our planet and our own living environment. Swisslog has always been at the forefront of sustainability in the material handling industry. Our goal is to help our customers to reduce their environmental footprint by enhancing the efficiency of our solutions. Our data-driven and flexible solutions are the foundation for an energy-efficient and eco-friendly approach to material handling.”
