Medline selects Swisslog for Advanced Order Fulfillment and Storage System
Buchs/Aarau, 23 February 2012
Newport News, VA; Feb 7, 2012 – Medline Industries Inc. has commissioned Swisslog to install a state-of-the-art order fulfillment and storage systems, into one of their distribution centers. Swisslog will provide its AutoStore Goods-to- Person (G.t.P.) solution, which will be fully integrated into the existing facility by year end 2012.
Medline, the largest privately
held medical supplier in the United States, manufactures and distributes over 125,000 medical and surgical
products to healthcare institutions and retail markets from a network of 30 distribution centers. The
AutoStore solution will increase both storage capability and throughput within an existing distribution
facility. AutoStore is comprised of bins stacked on top of each other for inventory storage integrated
with a robotic solution for goods-to-person (G.t.P.) picking, providing over 1000 order lines per hour
with only three pickers and the densest solution possible. This project represents the first rollout
of what will be implemented at multiple locations.
“We are very proud
to receive this commitment for our AutoStore solution from a company with an outstanding reputation
such as Medline” comments Markus Schmidt, SVP of Swisslog. “This confirms our opinion that AutoStore
will transform the Goods to Person solution landscape through a combination of outstanding storage density,
performance, efficiency and sustainability. Medline is the 24th company to select the AutoStore solution
for their order fulfillment and storage requirements.”
