Material transport processes in a hospital can be spontaneous or scheduled. For example, transport of drugs, specimens, samples and blood products, or sterile goods require an immediate response.

Scheduled material transport is usually for larger volumes within special containers. Typical logistic processes with scheduled material transport include the transport of food, linens or waste.

Swisslog offers automated material transport systems for both on-demand and scheduled transport within the hospital. Our systems are designed for the hospital environment, where sterility and highly sensitive transport of goods must be taken into consideration.

Automation of On-Demand Materials Transport

Swisslog pneumatic tube systems deliver on-demand items weighing up to 7 lbs. at speeds up to 25 feet per second. Pneumatic tube systems serve all areas of a hospital facility, including multiple floors and campus complexes via long distance tubes hidden behind walls, ceilings, overhead and even underground.

Swisslog's track vehicle systems provide service to multiple hospital floors using vehicles on a rail/track system with a wide variety of specialty carts made for lab specimens (pivoting to keep an upright position), documentation, xrays and more.

Available in North America only, RoboCourier autonomous mobile robots (AMR) provide transport of payloads weighing up to 50 lbs using laser guidance enabling safe operation in any environment. Container options allow RoboCourier to provide service for either intra-departmental or inter-departmental deliveries. An open container option is designed for intra-departmental deliveries within a single floor; while a stainless steel locking container is designed for delivery of secure items throughout a hospital. RoboCourier can interface with both doors openers and elevators.

Automation of Scheduled and On-Demand Material Transport

TransCar Automated Guided Vehicles provide scheduled and on-demand transport of items weighing up to 1,000 lbs (cart + payload) at up to 300 feet per minute. Items are transported using a variety of specialty carts designed for trash, linens, bulk food, thermal food, supplies and more. Automatic guided vehicles use laser navigation for safe transport using public corridors and interface with doors and elevators for delivery throughout a hospital.
